It’s okay for some but a disaster for others

So, i’ve got mixed feelings about this hotel because it could be really good for some visitors and a total disaster for others. This hotel is so basic and out dated and definitely not suitable for those that can’t climb steep stairs. We stayed in a room that was right at the front and had a shared toilet and shower. It was so so loud at night (we stayed on a thursday and the party’s were going on all night) and then early in the morning the bin men come so all you can hear is smashing glass and loud motor noises from the truck, and then the early staff begin setting the cafes up so all you can hear from like 6am is chairs scraping along the floor. This hotel is pretty central, about 10 min walk from the red light district so it’s close to everything you need. There is a smoking cafe on this square so if you’re into that there’s one on your door step if you choose this hotel. Our room did have a nice view and the windows open really wide so if you want to chill and people watch on your bed it’s nice for that. Basically, over all, if you’re not bothered about having your own toilet and shower, don’t care about noise and just want somehwere to get your head down, this hotel would be okay for you. but seriously, if you want a nice nights sleep then choose else ware because you will need ear plugs. my personal opinion, i wouldn’t stay here again, purely for the noice! we’re okay with stairs and the location suited us down to a T. I suppose i didn’t mind the communal toilet and shower and the outdated’ness of the hotel didn’t bother us bevause we were hardly there. the staff were so friendly too. so yeah, it’s ok for some but not for others.

Wonderful staff ❤️ we stayed for 2 nights, yes it’s old and has lots of stairs so if you have mobility issues (like we did) it’s not for you. We booked this not realising how steep or unpractical it is, again my fault for not checking but my god the man at the desk (I’m so sorry I forgot your name) went ABOVE AND BEYOND! To accommodate us! He took all the stress away and made us feel like family and made us comfortable. We stayed in a twin with shared bathroom it was hot (26c) with a fan & window but it didn’t do much but it was okay, dated but can’t complain as we didn’t pay a lot. We slept well, no noise at the back, the shared bathrooms are ok. The hotel is in a good location, good selection of food and bars around! I would absolutely stay here again! We didn’t have breakfast but every day we were welcomed and helped whenever needed, our mobility walker was allowed to be left in luggage area whenever we needed it! What a lovely hotel & staff. If you like the history of the buildings and the architecture then wow this is a stunner the floors/stairs & decor is just what I love but I know it is dated but I thought it was perfect and fit for character. Mother in law stayed in a comfort double and it was so nice and fresh, view wasn’t the best but again, we didn’t pay a lot so we were happy with it, again we needed a lower room so we’re so happy for the help and appreciated anything we got! Friendly and helpful staff, hotel is in a fab location close to everything! The decor is dated and a small room is very small for 2 people, at night the hotel is above bars so can be a bit noisy so would recommend some earplugs.

I'm 60 years old and the room was on the 4th floor with no elevator exhausting to get up to the room. Staircase to get up had very narrow steps, very easy to make a misstep, I was scared going up and down these stairs. No bathroom or toilet in the room which was very disappointing. Breakfast was just egg cheese ham and croissant or cereal, no fruit at all. Very expensive for the price they charge.

This review is a bit divided in the sense that the hotel is very central to pretty well all you want to see. But it is not for those who have mobility problems as the first thing you are faced with before even seeing reception is a very steep flight of 15 or so steps which you have to get your suitcase up with! However reception staff are extremely helpful and kind and could not have done too much for us The building is a real Amsterdam tall house and as a result is a warren of rooms and corridors and steep flights of stairs. Most rooms do not have ensuite. It is slightly shabby and the decor is a bit old fashioned but it all seemed clean Breakfast was ok but not amazing However the warmth and kindness of the staff did so much to make our stay enjoyable
