Located on the north side of Dundas Street between Colborne & Waterloo Streets, I picked the place because it was within walking distance to the library & some vegan restaurants. I had come for research & was hoping for a quiet place to relax. I had heard from others that the area was a little sketchy, but I thought that the location of the Delta across the street & the Marriott nearby would mean it would be ok. First the good: The complimentary breakfast was nicely laid out & the water in the bathroom was good and hot. The location, while sketchy was close to the public library & buses for getting around & some really good restaurants. The bad: When I arrived to check in, the lobby was full of new Canadians & piles of their clothing & supplies littered all over the lobby in garbage bags. There was also a security guard seated in the lobby. It was a disconcerting first impression. When I asked about what was happening I was informed that the hotel was also a long term stay facility. There is no doubt that such spaces are needed, but renting out rooms to travellers, for an expensive fee, in the same facility where immigrants are being housed left me feeling that I had been duped. It seemed dishonest to advertise the place to travellers as a hotel when in reality it was a long term stay facility. Later that day I was able to check-in, only after 3:00 (which was odd) I was further dismayed to see the state of the place, it had seen better days. While there were two elevators, only one was working, which was made more difficult when they were commandeered for support for the immigrant families. Everything about the place was tired & used & certainly not what one would expect for the price quoted. While attempts had been made to dress up the actual room (I was on the 7th floor) to make it seem like a regular hotel, a coffee maker, bottled water, a fridge & microwave, there was little attention paid to actual comfort. The beds were lumpy & uncomfortable with no structure, the window, which faced onto the bright lights of Dundas Street only had sheers & no blackout blinds or drapes which could block out the light & the space had not been cleaned properly after its last use. Everything was either tired, shabby or stained. The lack of transparency about the facility and its current use makes me unable to recommend it.

I went to the front desk late at night to ask for a couple pillow cases, because I didn't recieve any from housekeeping and didn't notice, The staff member at the desk told me she couldn't give me a pillow case and that I would have to wait until the next day. 90% of the linens and towels I have recieved are either stained heavily or ripped, burned, or fraying. It is also not uncommon to have a long black hair attached to your towels. The shower curtain is stained, and the tub itself has rough patches and nail polish stains. The comforter I recieved had tears in every corner and the fluff was coming out, so I asked for a new one. I was given one that had a giant rip in it, probably 6-7inches in length. I asked for another one and was told that they didn't have any more that were not ripped so I was basically stuck with the one falling apart. Long-term stay guests are treated with far less respect than the 'regular' short stay guests, even though they are still paying guests... and can leave reviews.

The exterior of the hotel was in need of maintenance and lacking an identifying sign. The carpets throughout the building were soiled/stained and in need of replacement. The rooms were surface clean, lack of shelf space in the bathroom due to missing shelf, windows were in bad need of cleaning. The bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was defined as "grab and go" but you'd be better off just go elsewhere for a good breakfast. The ice machine on the 8th floor was out of order. One elevator only, the other was not operating, out of order. This hotel is obviously been made available to newcomers entering the country and in need of housing. There are better options close to this hotel.

I splurged on a suite on the top floor. Very roomy and comfortable, with the bedroom separated by French doors. The only thing I didn't like was that the clock radio was broken. I was able to use my IPod to wake up. I first thought there was no hair dryer in my room, but when I closed the bathroom door it was hanging on the door in a bag and worked just fine. Normally I am not a fan of firm support beds, but this bed was surprisingly comfortable, and as I had spent the entire day at the Home County Music and Arts Festival, I slept very well. There is a Keurig coffeemaker, a refrigerator and microwave. If you're staying long term, bring your own utensils. The shower head is adjustable, which I loved. Free breakfast includes your standard breakfast buffet, which even included chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip muffins. Safe underground parking is available for a fee, but you must enter through the main lobby. The staff is super friendly and ready to assist when needed.

Had a really good stay here, we stayed as a family ( husband wife and toddler) got a double queen bedroom and it was perfect. We stayed in room 410. Hallways smelt quite musky , however room did not. The traffic outside was a little loud, maybe better to get room on opposite side if that would bother you. Room was very clean, no dust or dirt in sight. Bed was not the best, quite hard and you'd automatically fall to middle. Arriving was a little tricky as there's no signage anywhere about this hotel , it almost looked like apartment building, ended up doing U-turn and found the parking underneath building. Everything was great except on the morning we were leaving we noticed little brown bugs flying in bathroom ( about 6) no idea where they came from but it was only in there. Last thing, when they charge you on visa it was actually showing up as holiday inn, I had to call to see what that was about as I was confused. It is the allure hotel charging but using the name from building prior
