Major concerns are as below; 1. When u check in- no bell boy to carry your luggage so DIY. You will just get a sleepy reception person who will give u your keys and figure out the rest yourself. 2. In case you get keys to 6th floor, use the lift till 5th floor and take stairs to reach the 5th. Our elderly parents had trouble the first day and we had to request a lot to get at least their room changed so they don’t have to climb the stairs. 3. You will smell of old building and dampness in the corridors and the rooms. God knows when the carpets and curtains were cleaned last🙄 4. Rooms are big but maybe there are bed bugs as it was itchy and uncomfortable during the stay. 5. No room cleaning and service unless u personally go and follow up 10 times. Our stay was for 4 nights and after rigorous follow up the lazy house keeping came on the third day and cleaned I don’t know what as the bed linens weren’t changed and made up.. 6. The attitude of this hotel staff is beyond understanding. Nobody ever smiles nor tries to help no matter what. Except for the reception guy, nobody can speak English so u can just keep trying to explain things using translator on your phone. And they will do whatever they feel like. 7. Breakfast was ok as u get covered with the basics like milk, tea, corn flakes bread etc but no hot milk nor water. But still I would stay it’s manageable. 8. After 11 pm this place becomes something else (if u know what I mean), everyone’s drunk around it and it feels unsafe to be down near the reception. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FAMILIES.. 9. During our stay, one day 3 police vans had come and it felt like a chase for some criminal. 10. During our check out, was the real shock of our lives: - 10,000 KZT fined for towels as after 3 days of no cleaning one towel was kept on the floor to soak the extra water - 1,00,000 KZT fined for carpets as they took pictures of something on their carpets which we described before as never cleaned from very long time. We suggest taking before and after pictures of the room to avoid this scam. On arguing, they warned us of calling the police specially knowing that we had elders and a baby with us and a flight to catch in few hours.

I had an 11 hour layover between my flight from Dubai to my flight to Atyrau and was really searching for a hotel near the airport that was convenient and reasonably priced. Grand Hotel Erbil is both of those. I made the booking online with the option to pay on arrival. The booking made provision for a free shuttle pickup from the airport and a very reasonable transfer back the following morning. The hotel confirmed everything by Whatsapp. Contactless payment. Clean room. Clean linen. Friendly and efficient service. I ordered a simple burger and chips via WhatsApp and the food arrived hot and fresh. Minibar is fully stocked and reasonably priced. Their menu is extensive (55 page book) and they cater for everything from a bowl of hummus to platters of meats, cakes, cocktails, etc. For a traveller, this hotel is well worth it. Smelly, room, A/C leaking from the ceiling. All this is nothing comparing with what was happening during night! from 2 am till 5 am you can not sleep, due to noise from prostitutes in the hotel. Hotel staff is not doing anything, they close their eyes. Prostitute was running crying being abused in corridor, but no one even bothered. Reception will not answer the call from the room until 7 or 8 am. breakfast is poor, food is cold and prepared yesterday night. Simple eggs to be fried was refused. However when street policeman entered and ordered to waiter to fry eggs, it was done immediately. Be sure it is not mentioned in the booking that transfer from ALA to hotel and/or hotel to ALA airport is free only one way, and was never mentioned during the booking, reservation and arranging the car pick up/drop off. Surprise is on check in day where you will be informed that drop off to the hotel costs additional money and not free. DON'T recommend THIS HOTEL! Only positive note that we were met at the airport and safely dropped to the hotel. Driver was nice too.

Lousy hotel - to be avoided

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights from 27 Sept and had one of our worst hotel experiences. Every day was a new issue such as lift not working, no hot water, ran out of water bottles, door keys repeatedly not working etc. etc. Hardly any one speaks English and had to make trips to the reception for every small thing. Best avoided at all costs.

I missed my connecting flight out of Almaty and the airline responsible put passengers including myself in this hotel. It is about 10 minutes from Almaty's international airport. The hotel is clean but outdated. I was given a room at the 6th floor, but the elevator only reaches the 5th floor, and afterwards you have to climb up a stair with your luggage to the 6th floor. I was given a room at the end of the corridor of which there was no light at the entrance to the room. The room was clean but basic. While Almaty was quite hot in early September (31+ degree celcius). The shower had cold water only. There is no telephone in the room and no room service. The hotel did provide free water bottles in the room which was very helpful. The restaurant downstairs that provided late dinner for passengers had limited menu, although a second restaurant which provided breakfast the following morning was quite good. The only problem are flies seems to be everywhere. Probably be because of summer but need to address this issue. A karaoke bar inside the hotel was running non-stop during the night until the following morning with noises which can be heard from the hotel's lobby. Communication with hotel staff was a big challenge as they can only communicate in Russian with very limited English. Outside the hotel is a small shop to buy water and other stuff. The hotel provided free transportation back to the airport. The hotel also arranged for a short trip to the mountains (45 minutes away).
