Unfortunately this hotel was a huge downer for our trip to Birmingham. We were grossly over-charged for our room and found our rates were much lower for other guests we talked to so be careful there. Our room was very noisy and stuffy. The hotel staff were either experienced and very rude and unwelcoming or totally new and didn’t have any information. Additionally our room had other guests hair all over the floor and even though we asked for special attention to cleaning, this never happened. Sorry to have to be negative but something is deeply wrong with the attitude of this hotel and that leads to lots of other issues. Avoid.

We booked an overnight stay at the Elyton and we’re looking forward to staying at another Autograph Collection Property as we have enjoyed stay at a few others in the past. We drove all day and we’re envisioning getting to our room and relaxing. Upon arrival we were told that nothing was open in the hotel due to it being Easter. Ok…..not even a hotel bar….no…..nothing. We could get a drink or food. We can understand it was a holiday however, it was not posted online or in the hotel anywhere that would have indicated if you book just know this very important fact. Our room was average at best and we had a corner room with a City view. That’s not saying much seeings how the rooms are well above $200 a night. We were looking forward to breakfast at least. We ordered a Cappuccino and a Latte……this came out as coffees. No where near a specialty coffee unfortunately. Our waiter Skylar was polite when I asked him a few questions about the coffee. He was happy to take a few tips from me in regards to how to make foam for a specialty drink. Their equipment was leaking for him to present specialty coffee drinks and they used “pod” for their Espresso drinks. Hence why our drinks were coffee. We noticed the online menu is not the exact menu presented in The Yard Restaurant. Several items were missing from the in house menu. My husband ordered the Smoked Salmon Toast….we were told….that’s the only thing we are out of. He then order the Elyon Breakfast instead. I ordered the Lemon Poppyseed Ricotta Pancakes with a Bluebery Compote and were looking forward to having them. Moments later Skylar had to inform me that they didn’t have them. They had Chocolate Chip Pancakes if I wanted those…..well no….I’m not a 10 year old at IHOP here. I reordered just the plain ole Continental Breakfast. Yogurt Parfait with Blueberries (how about Blueberry Pancakes in instead of Chocolate Chip?) half a Grapefruit and a Croissant. I thought what could go wrong with a Continental Breakfast….well things look pretty good except the Croissant was not there and was replaced with what I was told was a Catfish Head Biscuit. This thing was big for sure…..not light and airy as a Croissant but very heavy and tasteless. No thanks….my husband tried it and he agreed. He enjoyed his 2eggs/hash browns with bacon and toast. We did have the staff let us know at every turn during our disappointment if stay that Jessica (Hotel Manager) was struggling to keep up with the hotel in every area. The staff was always kind/friendly and had a quick smile. They must really like Jessica because they are always trying to cover for her and her lack of skills in managing a Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection Hotel. We absolutely wasted our stay and hard earned American Express benefit on this stay :-(

Loud street traffic noise you hear everything, stuffy room no air circulation.

The loudest hotel we have ever stayed in you can hear all the street noise and cars racing with loud mufflers till after midnight. If you want little sleep this is for you. We are platinum members which means nothing we had a tiny craped room next to the elevator 801 I called down to the front to change rooms the front desk said our room is a upgrade. Your telling me next to the elevator and on the street corner where you get to hear all the busses stop , lucky me for the upgrade. We valet parked for $37.00 only because 4 (rental) cars parked in front of the hotel had there windows smashed in . I know for a fact it happened cause there was gas everywhere and ,5 people told me from the hotel. The young ladies at the desk said at night they have someone walk them to there cars I said if the cars were parked in front of your hotel can't you go back to the video footage on the security camera? No we have no cameras our management is considering them. For the price you pay your better off staying at the Fairfield inn next door same owner 1/2 the price. I used points for the stay I'm still disappointed I used my points for this hotel I got about ,2 hrs of sleep due to the noise. I felt we settled we should have moved hotels, the decor is nice , there's a rooftop bar people seemed to like with an outdoor patio the restaurant we did not try. The sheets were no crisp they are so worn they have little rough balls on them it what happens when your sheet are worn out. There is No air circulation and the front desk controls your room temperature the room was so stuffy The best thing about the stay was we went to a fabulous restaurant down the street called Helen's . We'll be back to Birmingham but will not return to this property.

The Elyton Hotel is a beautiful property in a former bank. Comfortable beds, beautiful lobby with complimentary coffee, and nicely appointed rooms. We arrived in pouring rain and the valet staff was super friendly and helpful. Diego (and the other guys whose names unfortunately I did not get) were all doing their jobs with a smile even though they were soaked. At the front desk Cleo welcomed us efficiently, friendly and professionally. The second night Latara was super helpful and also friendly, efficient and professional. The location was super convenient for walking to our event at Alabama Theater. The Pitiz Food Hall is a short walk and has several choices for food. Great stay!!

Do not stay at this hotel! If you find yourself desperate in downtown Birmingham find a dumpster or abandoned building to sleep in over staying at the Elyton. I promise you will get a better nights sleep on the street. At least in an abandoned building there would be a possibility of a breeze. Bc there is not in the hotel rooms. Air did not work. It 81 degrees and humid. Called front desk and her response I quote “let me try to turn the air on. Oh it won’t come on”. Wait what? You control my room temp? I don’t. I always knew it but they finally said it out loud and I even have it in writing on the chat in the app. $300 per night and we got about 3 hours sleep. This seems to be a trend at every Marriott we stay at around the country and in the Caribbean. And why you may ask. Well because they are trying to get their ESG score down by lowering their carbon footprint. It’s always a woke climate alarmist agenda with these corporations.
