I stayed at the Citadines Place d’Italie for 12 nights, including six nights before my husband flew to Paris. This was the first time that we had stayed in an apartment or apartment hotel. Arrangement We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment. Upon entering, there was a hallway with closets to the right. The hallway led to the bedroom in the back. The hallway on the left led to a small room for the toilette and next was the bathroom. At the end of the hallway was one room for the kitchenette and living room. The bedroom was the size of a typical European bedroom with a double bed. Either side of the bed had a small table and an outlet. In fact, there were several outlets in the apartment. The bedroom had a dresser with three drawers and a closet. The closet area in the hallway consisted of a closet for clothes, a closet with shelves and another closet. The latter had an iron and ironing board. The toilette consisted of only the toilet. To wash our hands, we had to go to the bathroom. The bathroom was modern and had a combination shower/tub. The sink had drawers underneath. There were some shelves to the left of the mirror for towels. We used two shelves for our personal items. The bathroom had two hair dryers. In addition, the sink area had a gel for the hands and the shower/tub had gels for hair and body. The kitchenette had a two-burner stove, a microwave, and an under-the-counter refrigerator and dish washer. Dishes, glasses and cutlery were provided. A small table had four chairs. The living room area had a television and a sofa with two pullout beds. Breakfast We did not avail ourselves of the breakfast. Instead, my husband went to a local patisserie and we had the free coffee from a machine in the lobby. Noise Level We had no problems with outside noise. We were on the 7th floor (8th floor in the U.S.). The apartment must have been at the back, as we overlooked a Hippopotamus Restaurant. Laundry Facilities A laundry room with two small washing machines and a dryer was on the premises. An app that was needed to use the machines was free and easy to use. Location The location is excellent, within five minutes of the Place d’Italie Metro station, which has three Metro lines, 5, 6 and 7. There are also buses in the area. Line 5 leads to the Bastille area, line 6 to the RER B and the Eiffel Tower, and line 7 to the Louvre Museum and the Palais Garnier opera. HINT: Upon returning to the Citadines, take the Blanqui exit from the Metro, as it has an escalator to the top. Neighborhood Getting safety out of the way. The neighborhood is safe and we did not feel uncomfortable. I am a petite, 78-year-old woman and traveled alone for the first six days. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants. Next door is Italie 2, the Place d’Italie mall, which has a Carrefour grocery store, an Orange store (where I bought an adapter), a Paul patisserie, a Starbucks, clothes boutiques, home décor stores and some stores that reminded me of Target, and places to eat, including the Hippopotamus Restaurant. It is an ordinary neighborhood with lots of places to eat, pharmacies, patisseries and retail stores. It is not a “cute” neighborhood that is seen in the movies. The nearby Buttes aux Cailles neighborhood is the only “tourist destination” that I am aware of. Cons The apartment is plain without décor It is also not brand-new and modern. I’m only mentioning this because some people want a certain atmosphere where they stay. It did not matter to us. The tub was rather high and at 5’2” (1.524 + meters) I had to hold on to something to get in and out. Other I am regularly on the Trip Advisor forum and will see your message if you have additional questions.

This place is centrally located in more of a locals environment. Trains station is a 3 minute walk. Grocery stores and mall are conveniently around the corner as well as restaurants, Patisserie's and fast food (if you're into that stuff when you travel). Checkin was easy and they did speak English. Our room was on the 4th floor. Everything is pretty quiet at night once everything closes down. We had no problems sleeping. Our Room: We had 2 twin beds, a table to eat at, a decent closet, a small utility kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, a small dishwasher, a sink with all the little necessities to function. I loved that the window opened for fresh air. There are plugs on each side of the bed for charging as well as at the table where there is a wall mounted 32" tv. The beds and sheets were comfortable (it's been a while since I've slept on a twin). The room was clean, in good shape and a good price. Our Bathroom: There is a wall heater if needed for towels, there are 2 drawers to accommodate towels, a small blowdryer, they supply bottles of shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap. A shower over tub which is decent size and a retractable laundry cord. The Lobby: Coffee maker available also a filtered water dispenser that has sparkling water which caught me a lil off guard. There's a utility room that you have access to where linen, toilet paper and any other replacement items you may need for your stay. The utility room does require key access. They have a buffet available for a minimal uncharge; coffee, pastries, hardboiled eggs, toast, the usual fair. Nothing fancy like a pool or anything but definitely a place I would consider when coming back.

Location is great - Average hotel overall

Check in was closer to 4, although they did allow us to store our luggage because we got in about 11am. We walked around a bit and grabbed some lunch but was glad to be able to get in our room and shower and relax a bit after a long overnight flight. The taxi rate was $65 from the airport to the hotel. I like list so here we go: Pros: 1)Room was clean - comfy bed 2)Staff cordial and professional 3)Coffee and tea in lobby was free 4)Store luggage for convenience if arrive early and want to explore before checking 5)Small kitchenette area equipped with microwave , two pilot burner, refrigerator, basic kitchen supplies. 6)location was good- metro right across the street, lots of restaurants and cafes within walking distance; mall underneath with grocery store 7) room equipped with iron/ironing board , safe 8) laundry area available (I did not use it) 9) we had 4th floor street view- it was nice and it was quiet overall Cons: 1) Breakfast was subpar - pastry, bread, watered down eggs, yogurt, ham, sausage, some fruit but not a lot of variety 2) no wash cloths - only hand towels and very thin, small sized towels for bath 3) towels were “self service” located in a room next to elevators by check in area- replenish your own 4) housekeeping only if your stay is longer than 6 days so clean up after yourself on vacation lol (there was a broom in the room ). 5) had to ask for more trash bags - trash receptor room available on your floor for your convenience (again clean up after yourself) 6)the tub had a high step in and it was difficult to not soak the floor because the shower door only went half way . It was also very SLIPPERY in the tub after lathering up with soap . Had to utilize hand bars to navigate safely 7) window curtains were stained with brown substances - not sure what it was but it was quite a bit and very noticeable. 8) room was smaller than average- maybe ok for just two people but could see it being crammed with any more than that. 9) hotel didn’t share a lot of information about the area or recommendations unless inquired specifically. I think they had a binder but it was off in a corner - not noticeable unless you looked for it. 10) I didn’t find the workers to be “friendly” (although professional) but greetings when coming and going would have been a nice welcoming gesture. If I didn’t say it first it didn’t happen . 11) if you want to take advantage of the free coffee you can carry your cup from your room downstairs and walk back very carefully with the hot beverage while getting back to your room using the lift (what would it take to go a step further and offer guest paper cups at service station?) Overall, it served the purpose for this trip. It was our first time in Paris. If we came back we probably would choose another hotel, especially if we were extending our stay longer than five days.

This hotel has a high volume of guaranteed guests due to it being I. Paris, and it shows. The complimentary coffee station has no cups near to it meaning it’s almost entirely useless unless you’re unlucky enough to be on the first floor. Or unless you like taking cups out of your apartment to fill them then ring the lift with hot liquid. Not enough pillows provided in the rooms. If you ask for more you’re told it is impossible to provide extra pillows (really?). Dishwasher in rooms without a complimentary tablet so useless. Poor quality soundproofing on windows so you can hear the terrible but enthusiastic Africa beat busker who turns up at about 5pm. Toilet didn’t work properly. Generally just not that great.

Comfortable, welcoming hotel with friendly staff, next to a metro station and shopping plaza

Pleasantly surprised by the hotel’s proximity to a shopping plaza, a metro station and various restaurants like KFC and Pret A Manger. The room was clean, dust-free and airy. The bed was comfortable and wide. The fitted sheet was a bit scratchy but the mattress and quilt made up for it and I had no trouble sleeping at night. Bathroom was nice and well-equipped. Also a cute compact kitchen counter with a fridge. The street views were lovely and it was quiet at night with excellent lighting. A lot of self-service options which was great including access to a room for extra needed supplies like towels; a breakfast buffet (with a cost of 50 Euros) offering bakery, cereal, eggs, sausages, ham and hot drinks and juice; and free wifi. Would definitely recommend this place if one is in Paris. The staff are friendly and attentive to your enquires and can speak in multiple languages.
