Overpriced, bad location for walking to the center

Arrived late in the afternoon and starter the good old bargaining. At the end managed to get a room for 1800 rupees. They said they don't work with OYO, but everywhere the hotel was branded OYO (I guess that was a trick to get a higher price). The hotel looks way over better in the photos than in reality. Left the bikes and went to the city - 15 min. walk through mud, darkness, cars passing by, poor conditions. I know I sound like a spoilt foreigner, but this is a review submitted after 10 days in monsoon season in the countryside of Sikkim, Darjeeling and East Nepal - so I have some experience.

Poor Stay at hotel Hangkhim

ANkolkata on May 04, 2019

After going through some good reviews, we booked this hotel, and checked in 21st April'19 at 2pm approx and stayed for 2 days. The manager was absent from the property and was kind enough to keep his phones Switched off. The boy in the reception was inexperienced and of very poor IQ and better to say illiterate. He was confused during our check in and continuously inquired about payment even though I showed him the advance payment confirmation receipts. He had neither any idea how to deal with guests and was very confused nor had any idea about online payment systems. After wasting some time we were allotted the Business suite. The Rooms were good well lit and so also the living room, but bathroom was devoid of any natural light and fresh air thus depends on electric power lights only, which lead to a serious trouble during extended power-cuts. They had DG set (generator) but they did-not turn it on and were waiting for sun down to turn it on but unfortunately guests were also not able to use the bathroom due to darkness and cloudy weather. Due to lack of power room intercom were not working and we every-time we had to go to the ground floor from 3 floor to request any service and much altercations we turned on the generator before evening. The assistant manager (he claims to be assistant manager) were mostly absent from the property and also a big lair who lied about staff not available in the property to turn on the generator which was a lie, although after some searching we found the boy who turned on the generator after argument and altercations Coming to Food:- We ordered for mixed vegetable and butter chicken. Instead of mixed vegetable they served mushrooms and butter chicken was uniquely horrible which was probably served from the leftover snacks from a noisy birthday party happening in the dinning room just below us. Buffet breakfast was uniquely terrible and of very limited choice. Another point all the staff leaves the property at 8:30pm approx without any concern about the staying guest in the hotel and thus you will at your mercy if you need anything even emergency post that time.

We are a group of 4 male senior citizens & we have stayed in the 8 bedded dormitory of Hotel Hangkim for a night.very surprised to notice good facilities in a dormitory at a very economical cost.it has 2 bathrooms & a separate lockers for keeping luggage.Everything is very neat & clean. Beds are good & bed covers are nicely washed. They have their own restaurant & the food & service is ok.It is slightly away from town centre & there is no other decent hotels near by. Taxi stand is just 1km away& hotel personnel will call taxi & you can directly negotiate the rates. The rates are reasonable & the drivers are polite. One drawback is that if anybody comes the dormitory late in the night then you may get disturbed. All sight seeing places are within reasonable distance.

We had a wonderful experience to stay at Hotel Hangkhim. This is the best place to relax as this is away from any hustle and bustle but not far from the main market. The rooms are spacious.Fabulous food catered to our taste. The facilities, the staff - everything is praise worthy. We had a comfortable stay and would love to come back.
