Bad service experience from the receptionist

I stayed in Novotel hotel on 23rd-24th May 2024. The receptionist called Saiko" (Im not sure her name. seems like a Japanese name). Her service was so bad!!! I was queuing up there. With nobody standing in front of her, she never looked up saying next please. but, with others, she did. I don’t know why she did this. Is she a racist? I had ordered delivery, however the driver didn’t call me. He left my groceries in the lobby. And this Saiko, she blamed me that I didn’t put my real name under my delivery. Well, if I really need to put my real name under it, she could tell me nicely, not in a blaming tone. It sounds a bit rude also. I don’t stay in your hotel very often. I don’t know your hotel rule! I am your customer. I am not your minion. I think she should remember that. Her service skill and communication skill are very bad. Grace 24/05/2014

Left in the dark at the Novotel

Steve J on May 09, 2024

Stayed 2 nights attending a conference. Returned late afternoon after the first night and to call to get the room made up. Grudgingly done. Had to attend a black tie dinner that evening - plugged in their iron to press a shirt and the lights and power blew in the room. Found the torch on my phone and called reception on the house phone to get help. Two different staff fronted up and wandered off - had no idea how to reset it. Now late (and going casual) for the dinner I left the Novotel team to sort it out. Five hours later (11:30pm) I return to my room exactly as I left it - completely blacked out! Returned to reception - had no idea there was an issue and asked if I’d tried putting my card in the slot! OMG! Receptionist then said she’d call maintenance. I suggested no, and they can find me an alternative room. This was reluctantly agreed but hadn’t been organised for me. I then had to pack my room completely in the dark with the torch on my mobile phone!! No assistance from the receptionist other than holding my room door open for me. No escalation, no acknowledgment that this was an issue. Might they have called me? We all fill out our contact details upon registration. Could they have offered to pack up my stuff and move me? Just complete indifference.

Very good location

We stayed at the Novotel Darling Square from March 25-29, 2024. The location is perfect. It is surrounded by food halls like Starbucks, McDonald's etc. Behind is the Chinese Garden ( hop on hop off bus stop # 18 ) and Chinatown. It's walking distance to Paddy's Market, Coles Supermarket, Darling Harbour, Darling Square and Darling Quarter. The room was always clean with complete amenities. They give out free coupons for welcome drinks which you can avail in the reception lobby or the Pump House which is beside the building. Highly recommended.

Overall, a good stay....

I stayed at this hotel for two nights and had an overall good experience. I paid extra to have a view of the Chinese Gardens but that was worthless. I was on the 4th floor and all I could see was a brick wall and the top of some trees. Don't pay extra for the Chinese Garden view, as it's not worth it. The location of the hotel was good if you wanted to be in China Town and/or near the harbour. However, it was at least a good 30-40 minute walk to the Opera House or you can take a tram and get there within 10 minutes. One thing I will add is that there was a total of two elevators in the entire hotel that customers could use. This meant that the wait to use the elevator was very long at times. At one point, I think I waited 5 minutes for the elevator to come and every time it would come, it would be jammed packed with people. One time I had to go back to my room to grab a sweater after stepping outside and that put me back several minutes... it wasn't just a quick grab. Another time I was waiting for the elevator and these people walked into the hotel, checked in and then walked to the elevator and mentioned they were surprised that I was still standing there waiting for it because they had seen me when they originally walked in. Overall, despite the annoyance of the lack of elevators, I would stay here again.

Bad Reception Communications

Reception Staff make promises they don’t keep. We arrived at 07:30 and were aware we could not check in to our rooms. We were advised to return at 12:00 when our rooms should be ready. This was not the case but whilst waiting other guests were arriving and being given keys to their rooms. After 45 minutes, we questioned why we were still waiting but others were checked in immediately. We were advised our rooms had not been cleaned. We explained that they should not make statements they were unable to fulfill. They then offered my friend her room! I suggested to Manager that they should advise cleaning staff that these rooms should be serviced first, to provide the serviced promised by Reception. The rooms were clean and comfortable with good bathroom facilities. Servicing rooms seems to be an issue as, although ‘please make up room’ notice left from 09:00 to 16:00 room was left unmade. We felt the apology offered was just lip service.
