We had a lovely stay at Hotel Kaiserhof. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and comfortable with lots of storage space - we liked that we could watch english language films in the room too! Very nice breakfast in lovely surroundings.

I will start with the breakfast--I will never forget the breakfast buffet--it was the best breakfast ever served at a hotel--what a great way to start the day. I dream of the breakfast. Staff were always helpful & caring. Room was typical European small but comfortable. Shower was great. Avoid rooms on the first floor as you will hear some street noise late at night & in the early morning. Apples, flavored water, and chocolate available at all times for guests. Great location. Did I mention that the breakfast buffet was truly remarkable?

Some great reviews for this hotel so we were expecting something special. We got the CAT into central Wien from the airport. It was about 1.25km from the station to the hotel and a very pleasant walk. There were taxis available. Check in was good. Small lift up to the 6th floor. Top. Very nice room. Good size. Lovely bathroom with bath and shower. All looked very clean. Bed was also very comfortable. First issue however, the room was boiling. Unless your room card is inserted in the slot which works lights, air-conditioning etc etc there is no way to cool the room. We therefore requested a fan from reception. The one in our room wasn't working. This proved invaluable. That night the air-conditioning went off about 3 am. We thought it was a fault. When we raised this with the reception we were advised by two gentlemen that this was normal. When the outside air temperature hit 16 degrees the air conditioning switched off. If the room was still too hot, we were to open the window. Great plan if there was absolutely no noise outside. Vehicles, people passing and the Irish pub just along the street hadn't got the please be quiet message. Another issue we had was the blinds. They are great for keeping the light out. But if you need air in from the outside, you can't close completely. They also had a mind of their own, fully opening one morning at 5 and 7 am for no apparent reason. Our big suggestion is Do Not take a room on the 6th floor. You have zero views anyway and with being essentially in the roof, the temperature builds up. We discovered first night that the Chef had left. After a long day travelling, we didn't fancy going out for dinner. The barman after explaining the kitchen issue said he could provide us with a chicken or sausage dish . It was very good of him and the chicken was an ok dish. Breakfast is in a very nice, airy room. Lots of space. It's self service with the emphasis on self. Very nice continental breakfast with lots of choices. The staff were very good at keeping the dishes topped up and clearing dishes off the tables. Hot dishes were not great. American bacon, cool eggs etc. My biggest issue was I spent about one third of my time at breakfast making my own pot of tea. Carrying my own cup and saucer back to the table. Along with milk. Waiting on toast was painful. We were so lucky that the place wasn't too busy. Carrying everything around in a busy room would have been a safety issue. As a minimum, I would suggest getting a toaster that actually toasts and leave cups and milk on the table. For coffee drinkers, which we are not, they actually bring that to your table. Another couple of tips. We asked for change one morning of 50 Euro at the reception. Advised we don't do change. Suggest if you need change you use the local supermarkets. There are two close by. Secondly, the hotel kindly booked a local restaurant for us which gets great reviews on TripAdvisor. What the hotel or the restaurant failed to mention to us whas that we only had a 90 mins slot. Whilst we sat there not worrying about the slow service what we didn't realise until our bill arrived literally as we finished our main course was that our time was up. No coffee, deserts etc. The owner claimed she had told the hotel this. She certainly hadn't told us when we arrived. The gentleman at the hotel reception when I pointed out our evening had been impacted by an uncomfortable discussion with the restaurant owner said that in Austria tables are generally booked for 90/120 mins. We sometimes do similar things in the UK but find it useful to tell people this when they confirm the booking. Not during the meal. As it was, the gentleman said that no such time restraint had been mentioned by the restaurant. So what could have been a really good stay turned out to be very frustrating at this hotel. However, we loved visiting Vienna and had some great adventures. The hotel is well situated for the tube station. Pubs and restaurants close by and most things pretty much walkable including opera house etc.

The Hotel Kaiserhof Wien is on a quiet side street but very centrally located to most of the tourist sites. For examble, it is about two blocks from the UBahn (which provides easy access to Schonnbrunn and the train station), 3 blocks from the Opera House, 3 blocks from the NaschtMarkt (a great place for finding good restaurants). The hotel staff was great, the room and bed were very comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was excellent, offering far more food than one could possibly eat. We stayed five nights at the hotel, and strongly recommend it for anyone traveling to Vienna who is willing to pay the higher cost of a high end hotel in the middle of the city.

I can’t say enough about our stay at the Kaiserhof Wien. The staff is wonderful. The breakfast is excellent and the service excellent. It is a very clean and beautiful hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable and the bathrooms meticulous and designed well. Room service excellent. The location is on the cusp of the city and therefore it is a quiet area with easy access and walkability. Vienna is just beautiful. We stayed two weeks as a base as we traveled and we will be back.
