Having stayed at a number of these style of hotels, I was looking forward to our stay at the Epic Sana, and I must caveat my review with the fact that this was more than suitable for our needs. However, given the costs for both accomodation and food/ drinks, I must say versus others I have stayed this left an awful lot to be desired. Location: Well enough located, with a c.20 minute walk to the main parts of Lisbon. Local Yellowbustours pass by on one of the routes, and bus stops and metro stations nearby. Restauraunts and Bars: Having been told breakfast was an obscene 35EUR pp per day on arrival, we were understandably keen to steer clear of this. However, when making use of the pool area we did order some drinks, which again were disgustingly priced. 10EUR for a beer that would take 15-20 minutes to arrive, 7EUR for a coffee or a cup of tea, and even just light snacks at the bar downstairs started at 15-20EUR. Some good restauraunts nearby, and obviously amazing ones in town, so would recommend avoiding and going elsewhere. Pool: We purposely booked this hotel based on the availabiility of 2 pools, one being a rooftop, and overall I have mixed feelings about them. Obviously the rooftop one is visually stunning, but the reality is this is no bigger than a childrens pool, and as deep as one. Temperature was good (26degrees), but in reality aside from Instagram pictures and a quick dip to cool off from the sun, a bit of a waste of time otherwise. Most concerningly was the lack of any real shower facility prior to entry (just one, running ice cold and difficult to find), and so from a hygene standpoint watching people go in the pool without washing after a day out was pretty disgusting. The biggest shambles however was the sunbed situation, with a free-for-all throughout the day, and unless like me you were prepared to come up early and stay put all day after about midday on a warm day you had no hope of getting one. There were simply not enough for the number of guests looking to use the facilities they had paid over the top for, and were poorly laid out with little to no opportunity for any shade. Some kind of administration over the beds would work well, with people otherwise simply laying towels down on the floor wherever they could find a space which really takes away from the level of quality of the hotel. Finally, I would recommend the hotel needs to take a stance over children. Either adopting a midday cut off policy for the upstairs pool akin to the indoor spa one, or simply becoming an adults only resort, would go a long away, as quite simply again they ruined the ambience and experience, splashing about and screaming in what is meant to be an exclusive rooftop opportunity, clearly never leaving the pool to go to the toilet, and both parents and staff taking no ownership of stopping them ruining the experience of others. I would however recomend the spa area and indoor pool, which was well laid out, and ambient, with a nice sauna and facilities. However, the steam room was a complete waste of time, and the lack of a jacuzzi which is standard for this level of spa resort was a noticable miss. Room: We booked the Deluxe Twin Room, and overall it was fine, with nothing particularly standout but also not problematic. However, a number of the facilities in the room did not work (lamps, shower blinds), with some obviously broken switches, and generally quite shabby in appearence with scratches and scuffs on a lot of the woodwork and upholstery. Biggest challenge was in respect of the room cleaning and turn up services, whereby the timing was at best sporadic (sometimes midday, othertimes not done by 5pm) which made access to the room difficult, particularly when trying to use the room for its purpose after getting out and about during the day. There were also a couple of days where cleaning simply did not happen, though to be fair to the reception they were quick to get this sorted out, but given the cost and advertised prestige of the hotel this is simply not good enough. However, is worth noting that chocolates were provided every day, complimentary bottled water, and delicious macaroons on arrival which were a nice touch. Staff and Service: I would say there was a split between the reception staff (which in itself was spectactular, and they were very helpful) versus the rest of the hotel. Bar staff slow to respond to even the simplist of orders, which given the cost did not sit well with me, orders at the pool often forgotten about, the cleaning staff were generally surly and not helpful or accomodating. Finally, for me a big part of this kind of hotel is the relationships and little touches made with and by the staff, which were completely absent here, with an example being those at the pool front desk forgetting who you were having only left for five minutes to visit your room and being asked to check in again. Costs: Obscene, over the top, and completely out of step with the rest of Lisbon. Clearly banking on the corporate money and contracts they have, and the knowledge they will probably not have repeat custom. Unless you are after the picture from the rooftop pool, would recommend going elsewhere. Overall thoughts: I can understand if you have never stayed at a hotel of this kind before why you would give it a more positive review. However, having experienced a much higher quality of services, provision, and value in other locations, it simply was not good enough, and given the 5 day AstraZeneca conference during our stay plus the location to other corporate business such as Deloitte, my only takeaway on their ability to justify such obscene prices for really an average (and in some cases sub-standard) product is these corporate contracts. Would recommend reviewing competitors in this space and taking note of the number of areas to improve upon.

Stayed here for 5 days while seeing Taylor Swift. Beautiful hotel, attentive and lovely staff throughout every department. Little touches that meant a lot. Complimentary cake/candles and a bottle of wine sent to the room for a birthday which was a lovely gesture. Great breakfast and fantastic rooftop pool area which is modern and spotless with a good variety of food and drinks. Overall a great stay in a great location. Cannot recommend this hotel enough, thank you.

This is not a 5 star hotel, closer to 3.5-4 Hallway and room smelled horrible Breakfast and food overall mediocre Not close to any metro or regular Lisbon sights. Only redeeming quality was the view from the pool. It, however, never had enough seats for who wanted to go there and staff seemed not knowledgeable of offerings or what to do for service
