Mingle with jungle

After a lot of research and contacting various resorts, we zeroed down on Kulgi Nature Camp. The booking was online and easy, and the staff Mr. Prasad was constantly available on phone till we reached. We preferred to choose tents over the cottages and not one regret we had, no mosquitoes or any other problems. The tents were big and spacious with all basic facilities (don't expect any luxury and you will be fine). The location of the camp itself is in the midst of the jungle hence even if you do not step out, you can hear the sounds of jungle all through out. The staff is very very courteous and caring. Food is basic but hygienic and good. There is a documentary show every evening to educate about jungle and wildlife. For kids and adults alike its a must go place. Pro Tip: Ask for trek to Satkhanda Waterfall if you are there and the guide Babu. He knows the jungle like to back of his hand and makes sure you enjoy it to the most.

You must meet Ramu, the cook

I would recommend nature lovers and travelers who love the peaceful close to nature vacations , to must visit this place. The rooms are decent. Place is inside the forest. But more than anything , if you enjoy hospitality and warmth of meeting good people and food is your thing, don't miss this place and meeting Ramu uncle. The way he and his team makes you feel homely, pays attention to all your requests, takes a simple dish to enhanced level, is mind blowing. We were four of us visiting the place. We reached pretty late at night. Ramu sir spoke with us once to understand our likings and when we reached he was ready with hot food and his warm smile even at the wee hours. He is the best example of hospitality and serving food with love. We all were so overwhelmed by his gesture. We couldn't believe the food which was so tasty to be so unreasonably cheap. We wish they increase the price a bit rather to do justice to the service provided by them. I can't recommend this place enough. Please go there if not for anything but just to be served by Ramu, the cook. You won't be disappointed.

Good stay (Bird watching trip)

It is around 2 hours from Hubballi Airport (neatest one) and 2 hours from Dharwad. It is very basic Government Resort. Cottages are nice and clean. No online booking available. You have to demand draft to their office at Dandeli. Their food was very simple .. home made taste. It is really nice if you are visiting for sole purpose of birding. Inside the resort, you can spot various birds. There is a Timber Depot at 10 mins walking distance where you can do bird watching. We did not do Safari in the Tiger reserve. We were told that tiger / black panther sighting is extremely rare. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the bird watching trip.

We spent a night here and there was nothing that stood out - the location, rooms, service. Rooms are very basic and not very clean, the food was average and the maintenance of the entire property is shoddy. The only saving grace was the sheer numbers of birds in and around the property, and the Malabar hornbills that we spotted at a short distance.
