An uninspiring and average stay

Of all the hotels we used in Italy, this was the least best! Arrival did not inspire. Much of the building was encased in scaffolding but without any obvious work actually presently taking place. This was unsightly and unwelcoming. The lifts were slow and a little bit 'bouncy' so did not inspire confidence. In fact one had broken down when we returned to the hotel one afternoon and was still out of service when we left the next day. The breakfast was adequate but not inspiring. This was the first hotel, for example, not to offer Parma ham as the others had done. There was no English Breakfast Tea on our first morning as the hotel, we were told, had 'run out'. How can this happen in a big hotel like this - the supermarket round the corner had a supply! This was rectified by the next day. The breakfast room had only one, very slow, coffee / hot water machine which caused an inevitable queue. One morning just as we got up intending to take a shower before breakfast the hotel suffered a power outage that lasted for about one hour, meaning that washing and dressing in the dark was a bit of a challenge. Noise was also a problem, although it came from outside the hotel. On a Friday afternoon / evening we suffered someone in a nearby building practicing the drums. This was loud and not too musical. Then on Saturday morning the very noisy bin men collected the waste at 07:00. Although the noise was not the direct fault of the hotel it would be nice to think they might have taken steps to diminish it for the comfort of their guests. On the plus side the staff were helpful and friendly. I would not use this hotel again on any return visit to Milan I might make.

Gloria and Martina were wonderful at reception and told us all the best places to eat. Mercado was so great and reasonable priced, we took the Metro from the city and used credit card instead of buying tickets. It was super easy.

This is the most charming and beautifully run hotel in Milan. Perfectly located next to the main central station. Highly recommended and I’ll be back.

The Best Western Maddison is in a very convenient quiet position, close to Milan Central Railway Station. The rooms are plain, but extremely comfortable with everything I needed for a two night stay. A great bed, good linen and towels, a window that opens, but A/c if needed.
